Coming into high school I was so excited to take the Architecture class at Chico High. I had always had an interest in buildings, structures, and their design and I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the IT program. The architecture class allowed me to further explore my interests and ultimately determine a career path.

The skills that I acquired in the class are extremely valuable. The knowledge gained of important engineering and architectural computer programs like AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Revit is extremely helpful when taking higher education courses, and increases your value in the eyes of employers. The opportunity to work independently, and also learn how to work with others in the classroom/work environment is also a great benefit.

Also, one of my favorite parts of the program was the resume and website building curriculum. Both of these were extremely helpful while applying to colleges and helped me organize all of my work and important information in a presentable manner.

I ultimately decided to forego architecture and apply for Civil Engineering at Cal Poly because of my strong abilities in math and physics. So far I am really enjoying the courses I am enrolled in, and I feel that Civil Engineering was the right choice for me.I have the Architecture program at Chico High and the faculty to thank for preparing me for a technical higher education degree.
